The Celebrity of Caregiving

It's a hot trend right now - and everyone is talking about it - but it's more than a trend, it's a movement.

Caregiving is having a pop-culture moment, but it’s actually more than that. There seems to be a groundswell of chatter happening more and more around caregiving. We see it more on our feeds, there’s a new generation of ‘influencers’, more documentaries are being made and we (Robyn and Eliesa) have even started a podcast about caregiving. While it might seem like everyone is jumping on a caregiving bandwagon, the reality is this: Caregiving is a conversation for everyone and there is a movement that is currently happening.

No matter your wealth.

No matter your influence.

No matter your race.

No matter your gender.

No matter your politics.

No matter where you live.

Caregiving will effect us all. And there is nothing more humbling and real than being cared for or caring for a loved one.

Rosalynn Carter said it best;

There are four kinds of people in the world:

Those who have been caregivers.

Those who currently are caregivers.

Those who will be caregivers.

And those who will need caregiving.

Right now in America, the “Boomer” generation is aging - and rapidly. 10,000 people turn 65 years old each day and our pillars of care in America are incredibly fragile right now. It’s expensive, underpaid, understaffed and confusing to navigate. The weirdest part is that for all of us, one day everything changes, and we are thrust into the caregiving space and realize “What the actual f*ck is happening? Where are the resources? Where is the help? How do I navigate this? What do I do?”

It’s for this reason that this movement is happening and we’re THRILLED that caregiving is having a celebrity moment! Because we need more conversations, more voices and more action to create clear support, resources and care for all of us. Because caregiving does effect all of us.

So many of us “normal” have been sharing, screaming into the void about the difficulties, successes, resources, etc that we find. The louder the echo chamber, the more people we can reach to connect and help one another.

Here are some nods to the ways we are seeing the Celebrity of Caregiving right now:

Taylor Swift Caregiving

Taylor Swift infamously went on the New Heights podcast last week and in the interview she opened up about caregiving for her father - and it’s taking the caregiving world by storm! Did Taylor just make caregiving…cool? (It’s always been cool, by the way. Caring for other humans is COOL and important.)

Lauren and Seth Rogan recently launched a new documentary called Taking Care in which they “Share their care journey—the challenges, the joy, and everything in between—of caring for Lauren’s mom, Adele, after she was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s.”

Beyond the film, the Rogans also have an AMAZING foudation called Hilarity for Charity that is a national non-profit on a mission to care for families impacted by Alzheimer’s disease, activate the next generation of Alzheimer’s advocates, and be a leader in brain health research and education. Mostly, Lauren and Seth understand that resources help - and we belive this foundation is one of the greatest pieces of work they will ever make and are already helping SO many caregivers.

Speaking of documentaries, Bradley Cooper executive produced the Caregiving documentary on PBS, which launched in June of 2025. The film aims to raise awareness about the challenges caregivers face and to advocate for greater support and resources for them. We also loved the history behind why our caregiving structures in America, how they were built and why they are at this place of fragility.

Jon Batiste and Suleika Jaouad created both a symphony, film and book which was born out of the highs and lows of health, love and caregiving along the way.

And then there is Ai-Jen Poo. We could fangirl this human for days. She is a BRIGHT LIGHT for us all in the caregiving space and the executive director of Caring Across Generations. Her leadership, activism, voice and influence are helping us all. Pay attention to Ai-Jen, she is changing our world ♡

Regular people and celebrities alike are creating things - films, podcasts, articles, art and sharing them boldly, because there is nothing more deeply human than caregiving. We’re also laughing and crying together along the way. And now it’s more obvious than ever - we are not alone. We’re all here, together. Let’s rise together.

Here’s the best thing about the caregiving movement that is happening:

It’s supportive.

It’s informative.

It’s R E A L.

It’s educational.

It’s rallying for a better future.
